BRITISH, Anglo-Saxon. Kings of All England. Cnut, 1016-1035. Penny (Silver, 19 mm, 1.02 g), a Scandinavian (Denmark or Sweden) imitation of a pointed helmet issue, after 1024. Draped and cuirassed bust to right, wearing pointed helmet, holding cross-tipped scepter in his right hand. Rev. Voided short cross with pellet at center, limbs united at base by two concentric circles; in each angle, broken annulet enclosing a pellet. Cf. SCBC 1158 (for prototype with bust to left). A particularly wild and interesting imitation. The flan slightly wavy and with a surface crack, otherwise, good very fine.
